NOTE: You must complete the Respirator Fit Tester Orientation, a 30-minute Free OnDemand Course, not later than 30 days before taking the Instructor-Led Respirator Fit Tester Training.

After completing the Respirator Fit Tester Orientation part, you are ready to put your learnings to the test. You will refresh your memory on theory before tackling the ultimate challenge: donning and doffing the N95 respirator, user seal check, comfort assessment, and fit testing. With an engaging instructor by your side for 3.5-hours via Zoom, you’ll get valuable feedback and demos to nail the proper technique.

Prepare for an In-Depth Look at Respiratory Protection:

  • The importance of respiratory protection and how to test for proper fit
  • How airborne diseases spread and techniques for self-protection
  • Laws and standards that pertain to respiratory protection programs
  • Different types of respirators, how to choose them, and how to maintain them
  • Essential components of a respiratory protection program
  • Hands-on training in the art of qualitative fit testing (QLFT)

IMPORTANT!  Respirator Fit Tester Training consists of three parts:

  • Part I:  a 30-minute eLearning theory module, Respirator Fit Tester Orientation.
  • Part II:  a 3.5-hour virtual Instructor-Led training and review.
  • Part III: a 1.5-2-hour practical component (virtual or in-person, with no additional cost) that demonstrates a qualitative fit test during a 1:1 session with a CCSA Health and Safety Consultant.

Course Requirements:

Once participants have completed Part I, they will be able to register for the virtual Instructor-Led review training (Part II) and schedule their practical session (Part III). It’s important to note that since a partner is needed during the Part III practical session, selecting an appropriate partner should be done in advance.

Furthermore, participants are required to adhere to any PPE, infection prevention and control, and occupational health safety measures provided by their employer. During the practical session, health and safety measures will be reviewed as well.

By purchasing this training course, you are confirming that all mandatory materials listed below are available and ready for use during the participant’s practical Zoom session:

  • Confirmation that your workplace has a respiratory protection policy and program in place or in development.
  • A respirator fit testing kit including sensitivity solution, fit test solution, 2 nebulizers, hood and collar (if necessary) with bitter (BitrexTM) and/or sweet (saccharin) solutions.
  • At least two unused NIOSH-approved disposable N95 respirators of the same make, model, and size as those available at your workplace.
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Disinfecting wipes for fit testing hood and nebulizers
  • Alcohol-based hand rub, such as hand sanitizer with at least 70% alcohol.

The Respirator Fit Tester Training doesn’t certify participants to train others to be fit testers, nor does it qualify participants to conduct fit testing as a paid service. Successful program completion enables learners to fit test their colleagues within their organization.

The Respirator Fit Tester Training concludes with a final online evaluation and observation of your first fit test.
